  • What is a browser?

The folks at PC Webopedia (an online encyclopedia that defines computer terminology) define a browser as:

Short for Web browser, a software application used to locate and display Web pages. The two most popular browsers are Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Both of these are graphical browsers, which means that they can display graphics as well as text. In addition, most modern browsers can present multimedia information, including sound and video, though they require plug-ins for some formats.

Note: Internet Explorer is not the same as Windows Explorer, a file management tool for Windows users.

    Which browser am I using?

    1. Go to the menu items across the top of the browser window.
    2. Click the Help menu item.
    3. Click About Internet Explorer or About Netscape to see the browser name and version.
    4. If you're using a browser other than full releases of Netscape or Internet Explorer, look for menu options similar to Help, About. Adobe Online Training refers to all browsers that are not the standard versions of Netscape or Internet Explorer as modified browsers.
Note: Adobe Online Training does not support Beta versions of any browsers. Please use only final browser releases when accessing Adobe Online Training .

    Adobe Online Training Supported Browsers

For optimum performance, we recommend using the latest full release of standard browsers (no Beta releases please). For a list of supported browsers, see our Hardware / Software Requirements. To see a list of our unsupported browsers Click here.

To download the latest full release versions of the standard browsers, click one of the buttons below:

Adobe Online Training and Beta Browsers

Adobe Online Training does not support Beta versions of ANY browsers. It is our goal to keep up with the latest in industry trends; however, we cannot support Beta browser versions. Please wait for the full release versions of standard browsers when using Adobe Online Training .

Adobe Online Training and Modified Browsers (like AOL)

There are many Web browsers, but many of them are just customized (modified) versions of either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer, that other companies legally distribute to their customers.

We call these customized versions kit browsers, custom browsers, or modified browsers. After Netscape and Microsoft released their code, several ISPs (Internet Service Providers) modified the code slightly and released these versions to their customers. These versions are perfectly legal, and generally okay to use, except when you're using Adobe Online Training . Some examples of modified browsers are AOL, @Home, BellSouth, and AT&T WorldNet.

If you find that your browser is not working properly, please go to either the Microsoft or Netscape site and download the latest full release browser version (no beta releases). When you're using Adobe Online Training , use a standard browser. When you finish a training session with Adobe Online Training, close the standard browser and open your custom browser to access the Internet.

    Connecting through bookmarked pages

It is possible to bookmark different locations within Adobe Online Training , such as the My Courses page, but we recommend that you use bookmarks only with caution, for these reasons:

    1. As Adobe Online Training grows, changes in servers or other site reorganization bookmarks inside Adobe Online Training may stop working or take you to outdated pages.
    2. Message board URLs are designed to expire. A bookmark into a classroom will not be useful for very long.
    3. You are likely to miss important announcements posted on the My Courses page if you bypass that page and enter the classroom directly through a bookmark.
